How it works
- 1. Pick your subject group. The correct Criteria A–D and their strands load instantly.
- 2. Name the task and choose strands. Include only the criteria and strands this task assesses.
- 3. Generate, edit and export. Edit any cell, then copy, download .docx, or print to PDF.
Why teachers use an MYP rubric generator
Building an MYP rubric by hand means copying the right criterion tables from the subject guide, deleting strands the task doesn't assess, rebuilding the 0, 1–2, 3–4, 5–6 and 7–8 columns, and then fixing the formatting in Word or Google Docs. A generator does the structural work in seconds, so your time goes into the part that matters: clarifying what each level looks like for this specific task.
It also keeps assessment criterion-aligned. Every rubric uses the same criterion letters, strand order and achievement-level bands, which makes moderation with colleagues easier and helps students recognise the same structure across units and subjects.
Because your pasted subject-guide language is saved on your device, every future rubric for that subject starts from your official descriptors — you only add task-specific clarifications.
Frequently asked questions
What is an IB MYP rubric generator?
An IB MYP rubric generator is a tool that builds criterion-referenced assessment rubrics in the Middle Years Programme format: Criteria A–D, each with strands and achievement levels 0, 1–2, 3–4, 5–6 and 7–8. This generator lays out the correct criteria and strands for your subject group so you only need to add task-specific detail.
Is this MYP rubric generator free?
Yes. The IB MYP Rubric Generator is completely free to use, including copying to Google Docs or Word, .docx download, PDF printing and JSON save files.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. There is no signup or login. The tool runs in your browser and saves your rubric and descriptor edits to your device's local storage. Use Download .json to move a rubric to another device.
How do I add official IB descriptor text?
Open the 'Edit descriptors' panel under step 3, choose a criterion and paste the wording for each strand and level band from your official MYP subject guide. Your text is saved on your device and reused for every rubric you create in that subject. The tool ships with generic placeholders because official descriptor text is copyright of the International Baccalaureate.
Can I edit the generated rubric?
Yes. Every descriptor cell and the task-specific clarification column can be edited inline, and changes save automatically. Only the level 0 band is fixed, because it always uses the standard text: 'The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors below.'
Does it work for all MYP subject groups?
Yes. It covers all 8 MYP subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition (phases 1–6), Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Physical and Health Education, and Design, each with Criteria A–D and their strands.
